Off-Grid Prime Power Energy Centre
Overview
Located in Dublin, this hyperscale data centre campus has a site load of up to 160MW across 4 data centre buildings.
The facility includes a dedicated CCGT Energy Centre comprising 10 No. Gas Turbines and 2 No. Steam Turbines, delivering a combined 200MW. All generation is connected via individual step-up transformers to a complex 33kV network designed for maximum redundancy.
NeoDyne scope included:
- Design and build of the 33 kV electrical distribution network, including 12 switchboards, transformers, cabling and protection systems.
- Design and build of the Natural Gas Pressure Regulating and Metering Station (PRMS), providing a 350 MWth gas supply to the gas turbines, with redundant pressure regulation and metering streams.
- Design, supply and integration of the Plant Control System (PCS), providing control of the MV/LV electrical network, mechanical Balance of Plant (BOP) systems, island mode operation, generator load sharing, black start functionality and load optimisation across the gas turbines, steam turbines and diesel generators.
- Electrical, mechanical and instrumentation & control (I&C) commissioning of all Balance of Plant systems.
Customer Requirements
Dublin’s constrained electricity grid presents significant challenges for the development of new hyperscale data centres, where uninterrupted power is essential.
The Energy Centre needed to:
- Provide off-grid Prime Power for 160MW data centre load for 20+ years
- Have no single point of failure across all electrical, mechanical and control systems.
- Tolerate failures and faults with no downtime to plant
- Facilitate maintenance of all sub-systems with no downtime to plant
- Switch from gas to fuel oil without tripping
- Recover from a complete blackout, by automatically removing faulted sub-systems, and black-starting in open-cycle mode within 8 minutes

System Architecture
Integrated Energy Centre Architecture
At the heart of the Energy Centre is NeoDyne’s integrated control and power management architecture, bringing together electrical distribution, mechanical Balance of Plant services and power generation into a single resilient operating platform.
The Plant Control System continuously coordinates gas turbines, steam turbines, diesel generators, the Natural Gas PRMS and the 33 kV private electrical network, enabling intelligent load sharing, generator synchronisation, black start capability and island mode operation. Designed with no single point of failure, the architecture delivers the resilience, availability and operational flexibility required to provide continuous prime power to a mission-critical hyperscale data centre.
