PowerGen Electrical Engineers – Graduate / Junior

Within our Power Generation & Utilities business, we deliver large-scale critical infrastructure projects that transform the reliability, availability, and efficiency of the energy network moving it towards a greener, more sustainable future. Projects include:

  • High-Efficiency centralised power plants in hyperscale data centres
  • Large-scale flexible peaking plants providing grid support when renewables are not available
  • Embedded renewables
  • National Utility projects to meet ambitious sustainability targets.

We are currently seeking graduate/junior (0-2 years) electrical engineers to join our expanding teams in Ireland and the UK. Experience with Peaking, CCGT, CHP Plants or Embedded Renewables would be highly desirable but not essential as we will provide full training.

Primary Responsibilities/ Duties

Depending on role and experience:

  • Designing electrical, protection and control systems in various power plants from standby generation up to large scale CCGT plants.
  • Requirements specification for various electrical equipment and assemblies (switchboards, transformers, generators, motors, instrumentation etc.)
  • Designing industrial LV & MV networks, including SLDs, cable sizing and routing, protection coordination etc.
  • Electrical Protection System design, implementation, testing and support.
  • Earthing Design
  • Plant Layout Design – General Arrangements
  • Preparation of coordinated drawings covering all aspects of installations, including mechanical, electrical and structural elements.
  • Working with Mechanical/Process teams to produce P&IDs for Gas, Fuel Oil, Lube Oil, Steam, Water, Compressed Air and similar systems.
  • Designing control and protection panels and creation of panel wiring schematics.
  • Commissioning of control and protection systems in the field: I/O and instrumentation testing, full testing and commissioning.

Qualifications, Skills/ Experience

  • Level 8 Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Knowledge and experience in the Energy sector would be advantageous but not essential. You will work on varied projects to broaden your industry knowledge and diversify your skills.
